RETIREE MEMBERSHIPS – PLUS MORE.
Chapter 207 is pleased to announce that we have the largest number of retiree members since it was organized as a chapter back in the early 80’s. (As of June 2006)
We are asked several questions about retiree membership:
Q. Did you have to be a member of NTEU previously to join as a retiree member?
A. No. You could have never joined, you could have been a former member or you could have been a member at retirement.
Q. Can you join as a retiree member if you were a manager or a supervisor?
A. Yes. There are no restrictions on membership after you have retired no matter what your employment status was at retirement or when you resigned.
Q. What is my connection to the union at the local level as a retiree member?
A. Retiree members have rights within the Chapter 207 bylaws to be involved in certain aspects of chapter operations. All retiree members are entitled to vote in matters that affect the chapter – including the elections that select officers.
Q. Must I have “retired” to be allowed to join NTEU as a retiree member?
A. No. If you have left the FDIC and do not work at an agency where NTEU represents federal workers you can join NTEU as a retiree member.
Q. What are the advantages of being an NTEU retiree member?
A. NTEU lobby’s on Capitol Hill on all matters that affect federal workers. Those matters sometimes include benefits that federal employees have and the cost of their health care benefits. Also, NTEU offers benefits that retiree members are interested in, including discounts at nationwide companies (the Jiffy Lube discount is a favorite) and low cost dental care benefits. There are too many benefits to list in response to this question so please contact NTEU for a complete list. You will also receive special important notices and the NTEU Bulletin in the mail each month. If you sign up for special legislative alerts to be sent to your home email address you will be in the know about pending legislation that may affect your retirement. For all matters involving your future retirement comfort – this membership may be the best money you ever spent.
Q. How much do dues cost former employees?
A. $42 dollars annually. The annual amount is pro-rated if membership begins mid-year. After the first year annual billings will be mailed to you.
